Privacy policy — Zirq
Version 7 · 2026-08-06
This policy covers Zirq, the fasting app (com.southcove.fasting). The short version:
your data is yours. It lives on your device, optionally backed up to your own
cloud account. We run no servers, and we never see, collect, or share anything.
What the app stores
- Fasting history — start and end times of your fasts, the goal and eating-window
length for each.
- Progress photos — only if you add them: photos you take or import to track your
progress over time, with the date you assign and an optional angle tag (front/side/back).
On iOS the app can also analyze a photo entirely on your device to power the comparison
views: it derives a body outline (silhouette) image and, alongside it, derived body
geometry — where the body sits in the frame, the positions of shoulder and hip
landmarks, and a body-width profile — stored in the app's local database, along with
any anchor-point corrections you make to a photo's comparison. Outlines and this derived
geometry are stored beside the photos and follow exactly the same rules.
- Body weight — only if you log it: weight entries with their measurement time. If
you connect Apple Health or Health Connect (optional, off until you turn it on), the
app also keeps an on-device copy of weight entries imported from there.
- Waist circumference — only if you log it: waist measurements with their
measurement time. If you connect Apple Health (optional, off until you turn it on),
the app also keeps an on-device copy of waist measurements imported from there.
(Health Connect on Android has no waist measurement type, so no waist data is
exchanged there.)
- Your name — only if you enter one, used to personalize greetings and reminders.
- Settings — your fasting schedule, notification preferences, and appearance choice.
- A random device identifier — used only to label sync snapshots; it identifies a
device, not you.
All of it is stored in a local database on your device; progress photos are stored as
image files in the app's private storage.
Where it goes
Nowhere, by default. The app has no analytics, no ads, no tracking, no crash
reporting, and no server of ours to send anything to.
If you connect Backup & sync (optional, off until you turn it on):
- On iOS, your data is stored in the app's private iCloud (CloudKit) database,
tied to your Apple ID. We cannot read it — Apple's design makes the private
database inaccessible to anyone but you.
- On Android, your data is stored as a hidden app-data file in your Google Drive,
tied to your Google account. The app can only see its own file, and we have no
access to your account. Your Google account email is shown in Settings so you can
see which account is connected; it never leaves the device.
On Android, the operating system may also include the app's local database in
Android Auto Backup to your Google account, so your history survives
reinstalling. This is standard Android behavior under your Google account's control.
If you connect Apple Health / Health Connect (optional, off until you turn it on;
weight and waist each have their own switch and their own Health permission):
- Weight entries you log in the app are written to Apple Health (iOS) or Health
Connect (Android) on your device, under those platforms' own privacy controls.
Waist measurements you log are written to Apple Health on iOS; Health Connect has
no waist measurement type, so waist is never exchanged on Android.
- Weight entries and waist measurements recorded by other apps or devices are read
from there and shown in the app; a copy stays in the app's local database so your
chart works offline.
- Weight entries and waist measurements you logged in the app are included in
Backup & sync (if you use it). Entries imported from Apple Health / Health
Connect are never uploaded by the app — each device re-reads them from its own
Health store.
Progress photos are never uploaded by the app. They are not part of Backup & sync,
and on Android they are explicitly excluded from Auto Backup. The same applies to the
outline images derived from them. Like everything the app
stores, they can be included in your device's own full-device backup (e.g. an iCloud or
computer backup of the whole phone), which the operating system performs under your
control.
Notifications are local: scheduled on the device, never sent through a push server.
Deleting your data
- Cloud backup: Settings → Backup & sync → Delete backup removes the snapshot
from your iCloud / Google Drive and turns sync off.
- Progress photos: open a photo and delete it — the image file, and any outline
image derived from it, is removed from the device immediately. Photos exist nowhere
else.
- Your name: Settings → Profile → clear the name field.
- Body weight: delete entries from the weight screen. Disconnecting Apple Health /
Health Connect removes every imported entry from the app immediately. Entries the
app wrote to Apple Health / Health Connect are deleted there when you delete them in
the app; after disconnecting, manage them in the Health app itself.
- Waist circumference: delete measurements from the waist screen. Disconnecting
Apple Health removes every imported measurement from the app immediately; the same
rules as for weight apply.
- Everything on the device: uninstall the app. (On Android, also delete the
app's backup data via your Google account's backup settings if you don't want
Auto Backup to restore it.)
What we'd need to change this policy for
Adding any analytics, crash reporting, or server of our own would change the answers
above. If that ever happens, this policy's version number will be bumped and the app
will show you what changed before anything new leaves your device.

Added the photo comparison views: on iOS the app can analyze a progress photo entirely on the device, deriving a body outline (silhouette) image plus body geometry — the body's position in the frame, shoulder and hip landmark positions, and a body-width profile, plus any anchor-point corrections you make. Everything is stored locally beside the photos, is never uploaded or synced, is excluded from Android Auto Backup, and is deleted with its photo. |

No data changes. Questions and requests now go to an email address instead of the public issue tracker. |

Added waist circumference tracking. Waist measurements logged in the app join Backup & sync; on iOS, with your permission, the app exchanges waist measurements with Apple Health, and imported measurements stay on-device and are never uploaded. Health Connect has no waist type, so nothing changes on Android beyond the new locally stored measurement. |

Added body weight tracking. Weight entries logged in the app join Backup & sync; with your permission the app exchanges weight with Apple Health / Health Connect, and imported entries stay on-device and are never uploaded. |
